7 Newsletters You Should Subscribe To…

Hello and happy week! I am recovering from conference fatigue but loved all the new information and resources I picked up at the Postpartum Support International conference in New Orleans last week. I always make a list of things to look up and new resources people recommend at each conference – the list from last week is at least 2 pages long. Isn’t it crazy how you can be in a field as an expert and still not know some of the greatest resources out there?!

Today we’re chatting newsletters. This was a hard post for me to put together because I am careful to recommend anything to anyone that may take away from their time doing other things. But, some newsletters are very well done and offer information you wouldn’t come across otherwise that may be very valuable to you.

You’ll notice this isn’t a list of newsletters you shouldn’t subscribe too. I won’t share that list and you could find those out on your own. but these are the ones that show up in my own inbox and that I find valuable content in month after month.

See what you think and let me know which ones I forgot! And of course, if you don’t get A Midwife Nation’s newsletter, I like to think it’s one of the good ones too.

Anesthesia Patient Safety Foundation

Huh? An anesthesia newsletter? Yep. I thought so too. But then I read this article on Postpartum Peripheral New Injuries: What Is Anesthesia’s Role? Read the article, then sign up for the newsletter if it offers you a perspective you didn’t already have.

U.S. Breastfeeding Committee

Whether you’re a midwife or a mama that supports breastfeeding, this newsletter covers it all. The newsletter offers information about legislation on the Hill, initiatives in communities, national breastfeeding weeks as well as links to a variety of news articles published nationwide about breastfeeding. Disclaimer: I give this organization a small donation every month because they do such a damn good job. Sign up for their newsletter here.

North American Registry of Midwives

Nope, I’m not a CPM (Certified Professional Midwife). But I whole heartedly believe in following all the professions and trends across the profession. I hope that we’ll see more blending of CPM and CNM practice in my lifetime; until then, I keep up with CPM trainings, requirements and updates with their email updates. Sign up here.

The Lancet

The Lancet is a general medical journal that is nearly 200 years old. They follow all branches of healthcare and publish international evidence as well. The journal also does a series on a variety of topics including a great one on midwifery from 2014. To get a nice overview of medicine, this is a great journal to review – you can also customize what parts of the journal you’d like to receive. Sign up here.

Practicing Excellence

I didn’t know about this resource until I started my new job last year. The new job required that providers complete a curriculum aimed at excellence. It was outstanding. The company has branched out to a number of different goals to help all healthcare providers to practice excellence, enjoy their jobs and prevent burnout. There are two newsletters I recommend:

For all healthcare providers: Practicing Excellence Monthly Newsletter

For nurses/nurse managers: Nursing Experience Newsletter

Christian Friendly Sex Positions

Yep, you read that right. I went back and forth with including this one on the list but ultimately decided on two things: one, it’s good for everyone to have some variety and inspiration…and two, it’s probably a good resource to have in your GYN toolbox for well woman exams, etc. So here you go: sign up here!

Maternal Mental Health Leadership Alliance

MMHLA is a not for profit organization aimed at mental health in the United States with a focus on national policy and health equity. I didn’t know anything about MMHLA until the conference this past week. But they are doing a great job. Check out their fact sheets here. After you are wowed, get on the list for their newsletter. Sign up here.

What newsletters do you all subscribe to? Which ones are best for mamas, midwives? Which ones did you sign up for?

xoxo, Jamie
